QUEENSBURY– After its third race in Oneonta, the Galena Growlers Mountain Bike team traveled north this weekend to the Gurney Lane Mountain Bike Park up in Queensbury. Eleven of twelve racers finished the day.

In the middle school races, the Growlers fielded three riders, with two finishing on the day. The top middle school rider was Norwich’s Amon Oliver in the seventh grade race, taking a solid 11th place finish on the day.

Norwich’s Alex Dennis came in 23rd for the eighth grade boys. McGraw’s seventh grader Andrew Lawrence did not finish as he crashed on lap two of his three-lap race.

For the high school team, which consisted of eight riders, the Growlers’ top rider of the day was Norwich junior Drew Brooks for the second weekend in a row. He scored another first place finish, taking the top spot by 3 minutes and 26 seconds over the second place finisher.

Steve Brown of Downsville had a great race and took 12th place. Norwich's Dan Thompson and Andrew Thompson rounded out the JV boys’ finishers, taking 19th and 20th place respectively.

In the JV girls race, McGraw’s Madison Lawrence placed ninth.

For the freshman, Norwich’s Braedon Baker made the podium with a fifth place finish on the day. UV’s Alex Kemnah had a strong ninth place finish, followed by Norwich's Damien Murphy in a solid 12th place finish.

In the sophomore boys' race, Unadilla Valley’s Charlie Sheldon toughed out his three-lap race with a 21st place finish after one hour and fifty-seven minutes out in the heat.

As a team, the Growlers scored a year-high of 1932 points, with Drew Brooks’ first place of 540 points, followed by Madison Lawrence, Braedon Baker, and Steven Brown. The team finished in seventh place for the day while also moving into seventh overall on the season.

The Skylla Engineering racer of the day was Drew Brooks for his first place finish in the four-lap JV boys race.

The Prime General Contracting racer of the day was Emma Brooks, in her second NICA race taking 10th place in the JV girls race.

The Preferred Mutual racer of the day was Braedon Baker, in the freshman NICA race taking seventh.

The R.E. Brooks Construction racer of the day was Madison Lawrence for her 12th place finish in the shortened JV girls race.

The RSD Motorsports racer of the day was Alex Kemnah for his eighth place in the freshman race and in his first race of the 2022 season.

The Action Cyclery LLC racer of the day was Ben Kemnah for his 11th place finish in the boy’s seventh grade race in his NICA racing debut.

The Evening Sun / Pennysaver racers of the day were twins Andrew Thompson (Evening Sun) and Dan Thompson (Pennysaver) in the JV boys race for their high level of enthusiasm.
