MARATHON – On Tuesday, the UV/GMU Storm track and field teams participated in the Class D meet in Marathon. The girls team won and were crowned Class D champions for the 2022 season, while the boys finished in seventh.
For the boys, Ben Gorrell achieved two first place finishes in the 110 meter hurdles with a time of 17.53 seconds and in the 400 hurdles with 1:00.65. Teammate Haywood Edwards made the top-10 by finishing eighth in the 110 hurdles (20.43 seconds).
Joe Avolio finished fifth in the 100 meter dash with a time of 12.27 seconds.
In the 4x400 relay, a team of Kristian Stachura, Jacob Prentice, Haywood Edwards, and Ben Gorrell finished in second place with a time of 3:47.15. The team of Ben Gorrell, Roman Taronto, Haywood Edwards, and Joe Avolio earned fourth place in the 4x100 relay (48.53 seconds).
Blake Wright finished eighth in the shot put event (36’11.5”).
For the girls team, Jaiden Schrag was dominant in three events. In the 100 hurdles, she earned second place (17.37 seconds) while also finishing second in the 400 hurdles with a time of 1:11.45. She also won first place in the long jump with a jump of 15’4’’.
Gracie Gorrell picked up two second place finishes in the 200 meter dash (27.19 seconds) and in the 400 meter dash (1:00.22).
In the 4x400 relay, a team of Jaiden Schrag, Isabella Potter, Kalie Naughton, and Gracie Gorrell earned first with a time of 4:21.14. A team of Kaitlyn Finch, Isabella Potter, Kalie Naughton, and Gracie Gorrell finished second in the 4x100 relay (53.60 seconds).
Tammy Barnes made the top-10 in the discus event, finishing eighth with a throw of 72’4’’.
The team will compete in next week’s State Qualifier meet in Union-Endicott.
