UNION-ENDICOTT - Chenango County had a great turnout at the 2022 track and field state qualifiers held on Wednesday in Union- Endicott. Athletes from Norwich, Oxford, and Unadilla Valley participated in the event.
For the girls, Norwich is tied for third with 10 points coming off Shakira Alexander’s first place finish in the shot put event (36-2.25). With this victory, she has qualified for the NYSPHSAA championship. Teammate Lexi Slate finished in eighth place (30-10.25).
Other results are still pending and besides the shot put, the girls 400 meter run and the boys 400 meter run were also scored.
In the girls 400 meter run, Unadilla Valley’s Gracie Gorrell finished in second with a time of 59.32 seconds behind the leader’s 58.61. Norwich’s Richard Fuller picked up the lone point for the boys with a sixth place finish in the 400 meter run (52.75 seconds).
