CHENANGO COUNTY — The annual fireworks and festivities known as Fireworks Over the Fairgrounds will be returning to the Chenango County Fairgrounds on July 4 after a two-year pause due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
"Over the last two years we have not done anything, but prior to that it’s been an annual event that’s consisted of music, and vendors, and activities, and we are excited and happy to be bringing back a community event," said Millennia Entertainment Event Coordinator Terry Potter. "COVID really took its toll on everybody and events of this nature were no different, so we took a break and we’re just excited to be bringing this back."
This year's event will feature much more than just fireworks. Potter said attendees can also expect musical performances, food vendors, and youth activities, as well as a tractor pull put on by the New York Hot Farm Pullers Series.
"We’ve had tractor pulls on the fourth and they were well received, but it is a lot of work. So this year we’ve got the New York Hot Farm Pullers Series coming in, and we have music by national recording artist Jason Wicks, and Sundown, who is a local favorite," said Potter. "There'll be vendors there, there will be a variety of food there."
"New York Hot Farm, they’ve got a loyal following and will not disappoint. They put on a great show for the fans," he added. "They’re the real deal, I think people are going to get a night full of action. I think they’re really going to be fantastic. They travel throughout the northeast. I mean, they’re not a local pulling club."
Gates will open on July 4 at 4 p.m., with musical performances beginning at 4 p.m. as well. The tractor pull will begin at 6 p.m., and fireworks are set to start at dusk.
Tickets for the full day are free for children seven years old and under, or $15 for children over seven and adults. Advance purchases are available now at BrownPaperTickets.com, or at Norwich Copies Plus on East Main Street in Norwich.
Tickets will also be available for purchase at the gate the day of the event, or those who just want to drive in to see the fireworks can do so for $10 a carload that evening.
"That $15, it includes the gate fee, parking fees, tractor pulls, the music, and then the fireworks display. So the $15 is all inclusive," Potter explained. "If people want to just come out for the fireworks display, it's $10 a carload."
Fireworks Over the Fairgrounds is made possible by local event planning company Millennia Entertainment, who donates their services to put together a beloved community event, as well as several local sponsors.
"This is something that we like to do for the community. With the generosity of sponsors we’re able to put an event on like this," said Potter. "It’s become an annual event that we want to keep the tradition going, and hopefully it becomes a destination for people outside of the area as well as the local community, and it becomes a nice event for all."
