NORWICH – A new exhibit at the Northeast Classic Car Museum entitled “Hand Made Muscle – Street Rods & More” will open to the public at 9 a.m. on Sunday, June 19. The new exhibit will be on display through April 2023.

The museum changes out part of the more than 200 vehicles on display every year in celebration of the first exhibit opening 25 years ago in 1997.

The new exhibit “Hand Made Muscle – Street Rods & More” features 19 street rods in all, with one modified for the drag strip. The first Street Rods were modified to reduce weight such as removing hoods, bumpers, fenders, and convertible tops, then modifying the engine by tuning it and/or replacing it with a more powerful engine.

Robert M. Jeffrey, Executive Director of the Northeast Classic Car Museum, stated

“Automobile owners have been customizing their cars to reflect their own personal style since the automobile became popular and common place in American society. The new exhibit features a collection of American classic cars from the 1920s to the 1960s that have been modified to have their own unique creative and distinctive personality," said Northeast Classic Car Museum Executive Director Robert M. Jeffrey.

“This is an impressive exhibit to celebrate our 25th anniversary of our first opening. Both adults and children are going to enjoy this exhibit with the various styles, colors, and paint designs of the street rods," he added. “There have been so many cars, trucks, and motorcycles on display since the first exhibit opening, and I want to thank all of our exhibitors, volunteers, supporters, and members of the NECCM Board of Trustees that have dedicated their time to make the Northeast Classic Car Museum the world class museum it is today.”

The Northeast Classic Car Museum Exhibit Committee has been busy working hard the past year selecting street rods for this exhibit, and they have added cars in our pre-war and post-war exhibits, which features some of the rarest cars and motorcycles in American History.

The museum is open daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., seven days per week. The museum is on one level, wheelchair accessible, and scooters are available. The museum is closed three days per year on Thanksgiving Day, Christmas, and Easter Sunday.

Admission is $12 for adults, $5 for children ages six to 18 years old, children under six years old are free.
