SHERBURNE – According to the Chenango County District Attorney's Office, a former Sherburne-Earlville school bus driver hid that he was previously convicted of a sex crime.

He was later exposed after students complained of being inappropriately touched while riding the bus.

Douglas C. Webb, 61, of Sherburne, was recently indicted for multiple sex crimes by a Chenango County grand jury.

He had been previously convicted in Madison County Court for second degree sex abuse decades earlier.

Police said he applied for the job in September of 2018.

According to investigators, in January of 2022 Webb forcibly touched a number of students’ thighs and buttocks.

Responding to complaints, on February 3 the New York State Police reported that an investigation revealed Webb had inappropriately touched three students, ages 14, 15, and 16.

He was fired, released on his own recognizance, and issued an order of protection to stay away from the students.

But a few days later on February 9 police also charged him for concealing that he was previously convicted of a sex crime. According to prosecutors Webb applied for a job at the school and lied on his application forms.

A grand jury has indicted him on first degree offering a false instrument for filing, a class E felony; and second degree falsifying business records, a misdemeanor.

He was also indicted on three counts of forcible touching and three counts of endangering the welfare of a child, all misdemeanors.

Each of the charges listed by the grand jury were similar and stated, “the defendant did subject victim to unwanted sexual contact when he placed his hand on her buttocks and upper thigh, for his own sexual gratification.”
