NORWICH — On Monday, July 18, a fallen tree and downed power lines led to a temporary closure of a section of County Road 23.
According to City of Norwich Fire Department Chief Jan Papelino, the closure was between State Highway 23 and State Highway 320, directly in front of the Rentals To Go facility.
Papelino said a tree split and fell onto the power lines, causing some to stretch out and some to collapse.
"It was a tree there in the trailer park that came down and took down all three of the secondary wires coming into the trailer park," he said. "The tree, it just split a fairly good sized section off of it, so I just assumed a tree just got weakened and with the rain and everything the tree just split."
He added several local electric companies were quick to the scene to repair the damage, and the road closure lasted approximately two hours, from around 10 a.m. to noon.
"NYSEG came and Spectrum were there just trying to tighten up their line, because it got stretched pretty good when the tree fell on it," said Papelino. "Frontier was going to send somebody in to check theirs too, because it was hanging pretty low on County Road 32."
