NEW BERLIN – All New Berlin teenagers and their parents are invited to meet Sean and Colin this Saturday, July 30 at the free ice cream social from 7 p.m. To 8 p.m., hosted by the New Berlin Youth Center located at 34 North Main Street.
Sean and Colin have arrived in Chenango County as the first summer interns at the New Berlin Youth Center, Inc. ( www.nbyouthcenter.org ).
Their academic experience will include two weeks of local work-study and two weeks of backpacking at Philmont in New Mexico.
Upon successful completion, each will be eligible for two college credits.
Sean is an Eagle Scout, the highest rank in Scouting BSA, and has been accepted at the College of Engineering at Columbia University starting next month.
Colin is a high school junior and holds the rank of Life Scout. He plans to complete the requirements for Eagle Scout this fall. Colin will lead the Boy Scouts from New Berlin Troop 61 at summer camp in August. Both reside in New York City and are members of Harlem Boy Scout Troop 5 ( www.troop5harlem.com ).
During the classroom time, hosted by NBYC, Sean and Colin will attend the course, “Leadership & Administration of Not-for-Profit Organizations,” in the mornings. Each afternoon and evening will include time with local leaders, work on the youth center, and attendance at county fairs, museums, and summer events.

After the internship and summer camp, Sean and Colin will fly to Denver and trek 60 miles in the wilderness as part of their application of the leadership skills learned at NBYC.
Members of New Berlin Boy Scout Troop 61 ( www.troop61newberlin.com ) will meet with Sean and Colin this Wednesday before leaving for summer camp this Sunday.
