BINGHAMTON – On Thursday afternoon, the Norwich Varsity Golf Team traveled to Seton Catholic for their first match of the 2022 season. It was a close match where Norwich came out with the lower score and took the 239-243 win on the par-34 course.
Norwich’s top golfer was Jacob Dowdall. The sophomore shot a team-best 43 on the day. Something head coach David Branham was very impressed with.
“Jacob Dowdall is turning into a very good player,” he said. “Our consistency from top to bottom is going to be a wonderful asset this season.”
Following Dowdall was fellow classmate Julien Smith who shot a 45. Braden Reid finished with a 46 while Aiden Stafford shot a 51. Jacob Morris and senior Logan Waters both shot a 54 to wrap up the match.
For Seton, Evan Wenzinger led the team with a 43 while the bottom three of six positions struggled.
Both teams separated their youth golfers into a J.V. matchup. Seventh grader Matthew Brunick and eighth grader Carmine Pastore got the nod for Norwich. Pastore shot a 49 while Brunick finished with a 50.
Norwich looks to keep up their consistency in their next match scheduled for Monday in the Dinunzio Tournament at En-Joie Golf Club in Binghamton before hosting two matches at home.
