Over the past 2 years, newspapers across the state, and across the country, have increased their sales price while we have sat back hoping that our direct costs would begin to recede. Unfortunately, they haven’t. In the past 19 months, newsprint has increased 56%, black ink has increase 46%, printing plates have gone up 32%, and additional surcharges have also been added. And…. Of course, our labor and delivery costs have grown to levels I have not experienced in my career.
I cannot think of another community anywhere near our size that has a daily newspaper. Maybe we shouldn’t either, but I’m very proud of our small but very dedicated staff, who I feel does an excellent job of bringing you our local news and sports.
The Evening Sun has been serving this community for over 130 years, and with your continued support, we will plan on being here for many years to come.
As many of you know, if you are a print subscriber of the Evening Sun, you also receive the on-line edition at no additional costs. Also, if you wish you can become an on-line only subscriber to the Sun, which presents that day’s edition on-line at a substantial savings. The on-line edition is usually available each weekday by 11 am and is presented in the same visual layout as our print edition.
All of us here sincerely appreciate your support and understanding.
