NEW BERLIN – On Wednesday, the Unadilla Valley girls soccer team defeated the visiting Oxford Blackhawks 2-0. UV’s Jaiden Schrag scored both goals for the Storm.
Schrag scored one goal, assisted by teammate Kadence York, with less than five minutes left to go in the first half before scoring a goal on her own off a throw late in the second half. Otherwise, it was a defensive battle throughout the game.
UV was fierce as they shot the ball 33 times, attempting to score on every shot. York and Schrag led the team with the most shots. Most kicks were either too high or far right or left.
Oxford’s goalkeeper Madison Long stood her ground with 19 saves that came her way, despite giving up the two goals. UV’s Kalie Fernandez-Naughton made eight saves in goal.
The Storm will be hosting their annual NY Pizzeria Tournament this weekend with their first game on Friday at 4:30 p.m. against Gilbertsville-Mount Upton, a school they merge with on some sports. Oxford will be playing in the Greene Tournament with their first game against the hosting Trojans on Friday at 5 p.m.
