GREENE – It’s September, which means it’s the final month of the horseshoe season. For teams like Octagon and Betty’s Boys II, they are ready to close out the season on top.
Octagon remains the top team, since the beginning of summer, and leads by 20 wins. Betty’s Boys II holds the number two spot ahead of Riverside by 29 wins.
For the week of September 1, Octagon and Betty’s Boys II dominated in league play. Octagon defeated Seebers 14-2 while Betty’s Boys II shutout Bowlodrome 16-0. Chuggers lost to Betty’s Boys 12-4, but are out of the final spot of the standings by three wins.
Riverside had a bye week, which gave Pond Crew a good opportunity to earn points. Pond Crew earned 13 points in the win over Brisben.
Pond Crew could surpass Riverside for third place in weeks to come, only behind by three wins. But, Betty’s Boys is on Pond Crew’s tail with one win between them. Essentially, all spots are up for grabs with about three weeks left to play.
To close out the 20th week, Dam Team defeated Ticknors 11-5.
The Tri-County Horseshoe League will have its end of season banquet on Sept 24 at the Pond Crew pits. The league plays every Thursday night.
