NEW BERLIN – On Tuesday evening, Unadilla Valley hosted Greene in a MAC Volleyball match, where the Storm took all three games. Bella Jones led the Storm with nine aces while teammate Kate Conway had eight aces and eight assists. Hudson Lyons earned five assists in the win.
The Storm is coached by Shannon McIntyre, who entered her first year as head coach while having experience as the assistant.
UV is coming off their first MAC title last year, which was their first in school history. The Storm also made a sectionals run in 2021, where they made it to the final four along with Oxford, Candor, and Tioga. It was the farthest the team has gone.
McIntyre is hoping to make another run with a senior-heavy team. There are 10 seniors with two remaining players; one freshman and one junior.
With 10 seniors, McIntyre expects them to be major contributors to the team this year.
“They have all played crucial roles in building our program to what it is now through an immeasurable amount of time, dedication, effort, and passion for volleyball both in season and outside of it,” she said. “The time they have dedicated in preparation for this season has not gone unnoticed and the hard work they are continually putting in each day will noticeably push our team's potential to new limits, and that goes for the rest of the varsity team as well.”
With the goal of another MAC championship in mind, the team is focusing on one game at a time.
“Our hope for this season is to make the most out of this last season with this massive senior class of 10. This year's team consists of a very special group of girls that have worked unimaginably hard for everything they have, and will continue to accomplish,” she said. “They deserve all the success that is coming their way. For now, we will be taking it one game at a time as we strive to show up each day as a better team than the day before, and best prepare for whatever match up we are given each game.”
UV hosts Sidney on Thursday evening, starting at 6 p.m.
