SUS VALLEY – Coming off a fourth place finish in the Waverly Invitational, the Norwich Purple Tornado girls swim team defeated Sus Valley 83-45 on Tuesday. This was Norwich’s second win of the season and in league play.
Norwich captured this win behind strong finishes in the 50 yard freestyle, the 200 yard individual medley, and the 100 yard backstroke with numerous athletes finishing in the top positions.
In the 50 yard freestyle, Norwich picked up 10 points with Nina Kman and Mikayla Sastri finishing in first and second.
Norwich earned 12 points in the 100 yard freestyle with Sastri in first, Julia Llewellyn in second, and Aurora Strauch in fourth place.
Llewellyn finished first with Adrianna Palmer in third for the 200 yard individual medley. Regan Finnegan and Strauch achieved the top two finishes in the 100 yard backstroke.
Norwich also had success in its team relays. In the 200 yard medley relay, the team consisted of Strauch, Meghan Funk, Kman, and Sastri who achieved a time of 2:15.12. Strauch and Funk joined Palmer and Llewellyn for the 200 yard freestyle relay, defeating Sus Valley’s team by less than two minutes.
In the 400 yard freestyle relay, Llewellyn, Kman, Finnegan, and Sastri earned a top finish and collected eight points with a time of 4:34.40.
Norwich looks to stay strong when they travel to Chenango Forks on September 20 for a meet at 5:30 p.m.
