UTICA – Over the weekend, the Norwich and Unadilla Valley cross country teams competed at the EJ Herrmann Invitational held in Utica.
For the boys, Norwich had seven male-athletes compete where Caden Sutton took a team-best 35th place with a time of 19:36.1. St. Mary’s runner achieved first place with a time of 16:23.0. Behind Caden was his brother Zander in 54th place before Norwich runners dropped down toward 100th place.
Noah Pain led the way for the UV Storm as he finished just ahead of Caden Sutton in 34th place with a time of 19:35.4. Teammate Brian Wilson finished 75th with Alex Kemmah in 79th place.
Norwich had both Annie Boland and Kyra Brunick-Davis in action for the girls. Boland finished in 53rd place with Brunick-Davis was not far behind her in 55th. Adirondack took first place with a time of 19:58.3. Andrea Favinger achieved a 52nd place finish ahead of Annie Boland for UV.
Following the meet, Norwich’s head coach Shaun Horan was impressed with his runners.
“Huge improvements from our veteran runners from their times at this course last year,” he said. “Also big improvements from our new runners as well.”
Norwich have two meets left before hosting the Tornado 5000 Invite on Oct. 7. UV will be in Maine-Endwell on Friday afternoon.
