OXFORD – On a muddy playing field, UV/GMU defeated Oxford 4-0 on Tuesday afternoon.
Both teams were competitive in the first 25 minutes of play. Then Trevor Smith scored off of Trason Murray’s shot that just missed going in. A little teamwork that put the Storm up 1-0.
The Storm were not done in the first half as Murray got ahead of one off a corner kick pass from Devin Hartwell. UV/GMU led 2-0 at halftime.
The Storm came out strong in the second half as Devin Hartwell picked up his second assist of the day off a goal by Owen Hill on an Oxford foul.
Murray picked up his second goal of the game moments later as Haywood Edwards played tremendously on defense to capture the ball with leeway to score himself but passed it to Murray instead.
Oxford put up eight shots on offense, most coming from senior John Rovente, but could not get past goalie Tucker Cattanach. Kayden Renfrow made 10 saves in the loss.
UV/GMU travels to Bainbridge-Guilford on Saturday while Oxford stays home to face Sidney on Friday afternoon.
