NORWICH – On Friday, the Norwich Purple Tornado cross country teams hosted the Tornado 5000 Invitational. Norwich is also scheduled to host the STAC divisional championships, being held today, October 11.
Along with Norwich, Unadilla Valley/GMU and Afton/Harpursville/BG represented Chenango County in the meet.
For the Boys, Norwich’s Drew Brooks led the way in first place with a time of 17:13. But, Norwich, as a team, fell short to Tully, finishing second with 62 points to Tully’s 47.
Norwich’s Caden Sutton finished in seventh with his brother Zander behind him in tenth place. Anthony Bourne just missed the top 10 with a 12th place finish on the day.
For the Storm, Brennan Finch came in third with a time of 18:07. UV finished fifth for team scores with 96 points. Kristian Stachura finished in 17th place while Alex Kemnah came in 21st to round out the top finishes for UV/GMU.
Afton/Harpursville/BG had several runners fall incomplete for the boys. But, they came out strong for the girls, finishing in second behind Skaneateles.
Ethne Degan earned first place with a time of 18:46. She also had several teammates finish among the top 10 and 20 after runners fell incomplete.
Vanessa Brazee picked up a seventh place finish with Jaelin Brown behind her in ninth place. Lainelle Brazee achieved 10th with a time of 24:01 as Sage Pruskowski came in 12th and Madison Fleming in 13th place. Macaela Burns ended a great race for Afton/Harpursville/BG with a 19th place finish.
The STAC East Division Championship begins this afternoon at 4:30 p.m. and will feature host Norwich, Oneonta, Sus Valley and Windsor.
