BINGHAMTON – On Saturday, the Greene Trojans played Moravia in the 8-man semi-finals. This was a team the Trojans hadn’t faced in the regular season, where other teams in the league, such as neighboring Oxford, had. Moravia put up a strong challenge for the Trojans as they dominated 61-34.
Despite the loss, the Trojans played consistently on both sides of the ball.
Offensively, they saw a strong arm from quarterback Grayson Flanagan who threw for four touchdowns. Several deep passes setting up touchdowns for Joel Vielandi, Derek Renfer, Corey Swift, and William Dunlap.
Also major plays on defense helped Greene attempt to keep up with Moravia. The defense recovered two fumbles, especially one that set up a scoring drive on Moravia’s 35 yard line. The defense also pressured the quarterback multiple times with two sacks, and even picked up two interceptions from the back-up quarterback.
While this was a tough loss for the Trojans, they played up to standards after being down 40-6 at the half to putting up an end result of 34 points. The team should still be proud of themselves for facing a tough 8-1 Moravia team. Greene finishes 4-4 on the season and 3-0 in the divisional play.
It’ll be Moravia against Groton for the 8-man championship.
