MAINE-ENDWELL – Over the weekend, the Norwich girls swim team competed at the Section IV Class B championship held at Maine-Endwell High School.
During the finals, Nina Kman earned wins in both the 200 yard and the 500 yard freestyle events to become a repeat two-time champion in just her Sophomore year.
Overall as a team, Norwich took fourth place with 226 points in the meet with host M-E winning the title with 454 points.
Coach Saundra Gantt was impressed by her eight swimmers who competed against teams two and three times their size and said that everyone had their best times for a total of over 85 seconds off their swims.
Other notable performances include Mikayla Sastri's third place finish in the 500 yard freestyle with a time of 5:46.16 and also took sixth place in the 200 yard freestyle event. Meghan Funk finished fifth in her prominent event of the 100 yard breaststroke while coming in 11th place in the butterfly event.
Julia Llewellyn also reached the leaderboards with placing eighth in both the 100 yard butterfly and in the 100 yard backstroke. Teammate Aurora Shtrauch came in 15th place in the butterfly while finishing 10th in the backstroke.
Olivia Palmer just missed the cut as she finished in 17th for the 50 yard freestyle but earned a point for finishing in 16th place in the 100 yard freestyle with a time of 1:09.65.
Seniors Regan Finnegan and Adrianna Palmer looked consistent in their final meet for Norwich. Finnegan earned eighth place in the 200 yard individual medley while finishing in 13th for the backstroke. Palmer achieved 14th place in the 200 individual medley and earned a point from a 16th place finish in the breaststroke event.
“Another successful championship meet. Congratulations to this young lady Tornado team. Great job and good times,” Gantt said.
