NORWICH — It's the season of giving year round for Helping Hands, a Norwich-based nonprofit that aims to support members of the community through free giveaways of food, toiletries, and other supplies.
Each month, Helping Hands sets up stations in front of the Norwich Family YMCA, located at 68-70 North Broad Street in Norwich. This month's giveaway will begin at 6 p.m. on Thursday, November 17.
Items are given out on a no-questions-asked basis, and anyone can stop by and pick up what they need by either walking up or driving through.
Those who would like to help out can drop off donations at cvFree Church, located at 4299 NY-23, or at cvFree Silver, located at 23 Silver Street, in the provided bins on the front porch of both facilities.
Helping Hands Founder Lorri Race said items they're always looking for are pantry items like ramen noodles, soup cans with pop tops, cereal, bread, peanut butter, jelly, and pasta.
The group can also use more donations of hygiene and cleaning items as well, such as toothbrushes and toothpaste, shampoo and conditioner, bar soap, deodorant, shaving razors, women's feminine products, bleach, disinfectant wipes, hand sanitizer, and more.
"Those are things we take for granted. Those are huge," said Race.
A full list of needed items can be found on the Helping Hands Amazon Wishlist, which is linked on the Helping Hands Facebook page.
