SHERBURNE - Over the weekend, the Sherburne-Earlville boys basketball team welcomed Unadilla Valley, Cazenovia, and Vernon-Verona Sherrill (V-VS) to play in their 2022 annual tip-off tournament. Both JV and Varsity teams participated where host S-E won the JV championship game and V-VS defeated S-E in the Varsity championship.
In the first round of play, S-E faced UV where they pushed through in the second half to win 47-35. The Marauders showed great passing strategy that helped them get past the Storm.
S-E also saw a great game from their core three of Darren Miles, Rylan Sigman, and Jack Rodman. Sigman led all scorers with 14 points while Miles had 13 and Rodman with 10. Sigman scored 10 points in the final quarter that helped S-E take the overall advantage.
UV’s Tucker Cattanach finished with 10 points while Trent Marinelli had eight and Zach Smith with seven points in the loss.
The Storm went on to play Cazenovia in the consolation game where they lost 66-39. Cazenovia had quite the height advantage and had several players pitch in to achieve the victory. Benjamin Bianco led all scorers with 22 points and teammate Alex Kuper had 18 points.
Haywood Edwards led UV with 12 points and was awarded all-tournament team honors along with Bianco. Trason Murray finished behind Edwards with 10 points.
In the Championship game, S-E was outmatched by V-VS where they had a difficult time making their way to the basket and rebounding missed shots. The Red Devils also brought height advantage to the contest. Elijah Donegan, who stands at 6 '6'’ and was named tournament MVP, had 16 points while teammate Degaragen Paradis had 14 points.
Sigman and Rodman continued to shine for the Marauders. Rodman finished with 12 points as Sigman had 10 points. Both were also named to the All-Tournament team.
Sherburne-Earlville athletics will be hosting the annual girls basketball tip-off tournament on December 9 and 10.
