NEW BERLIN – Both the Sherburne-Earlville Marauders and the Unadilla Valley Storm boys basketball teams were quite familiar with each other after facing off in the S-E tip-off tournament. You could say both teams knew what to expect of the other, but all I can say is both surely came to play. In a game that came down to the very final seconds, S-E came through with the 42-40 victory. Their second win against the Storm this season and their third win overall.
S-E’s Darren Miles was fouled just as the buzzer went off to set himself on the line with the game tied at 40. With pressure on, Miles was perfect and made both free-throws to win the game.
The Marauders started off with a hot start, thanks to three three-points shots from Dilen Maceda. Maceda, who earned the start, tied with Jack Rodman with 13 points in the win.
While thinking they had the game lined up in their favor, S-E could not stop UV from making a comeback. The comeback was led by Haywood Edwards and Trason Murray. Murray had 10, knocking down two three’s while Haywood Edwards had nine points. Trent Marinelli also provided a three-point shot that helped UV take a 38-37 lead with about a minute to go. Kaden Butts helped UV tie it at 40 with 30 seconds to go.
UV would have liked this game to go into overtime, but their defense came undone in the final seconds. The Storm has seen their share of losses in the final minutes of play so far this season and only hopes one will go their way next time.
