NEW BERLIN – To kick-off the second day of the UV Holiday tournament, the Unadilla Valley girls basketball team stepped up their game plan to defeat Windsor 45-38. The win earned them a third place finish in their own tournament.
After a back and forth affair in the first quarter, UV’s Jaiden Schrag and Kadence York found their rhythm before halftime. Schrag and York put their skills to work dynamically to give UV a 31-20 lead after 16 minutes of play. York had 12 of her total 17 points in the first half while Schrag had seven points. Schrag finished with nine points.
The second half slowed down for both teams. Windsor fought back late in the fourth quarter, but UV held on.
Windsor’s Autumn Helstein was back on the free-throw line, sweating profusely as she single-handedly led her team with 24 points. She made seven free-throws and played consistently throughout all four quarters, but her teammates could not provide assistance.
