DELHI – After defeating Harpursville at home last Friday, the Oxford Lady Blackhawks were on the road against Delhi, where they suffered a 58-45 deficit. This was only the Blackhawks second loss of the season, after losing out their undefeated streak to Sidney on December 28.
Both teams were neck and neck in the first half with Delhi taking a 29-26 lead at halftime. Delhi came back out for the second half strong with only allowing Oxford to score seven points in the third quarter. Delhi outscored Oxford 29-19 in the second half to secure the victory.
Delhi also succeeded with 22 defensive rebounds to stop the Blackhawks from any type of comeback.
The Bulldogs’ Natalie Vredenburgh led all scorers with 29 points with 10 out of 13 made free-throws and three of five three-point shots. Oxford’s Madalyn Barrows finished with 25 points and knocked down three three’s while Ella Kelsey had 12 points in the loss.
Oxford (7-2) will host Sidney on Friday at 7 p.m. for a rematch that the Blackhawks hope will go their way. Madalyn Barrows, along with the rest of the Oxford offense, will be up against Sidney’s Emma Simmons, who surpassed 1,000 points in the win against Bainbridge-Guilford on Wednesday, and Ava Cirigliano in a tough matchup.
