SHERBURNE - After coming off winter break, the Sherburne-Earlville Marauders volleyball team started off the 2023 year off strong with a win over Herkimer. But, they’ve since dropped the last two games, most recently to Cooperstown.

Seniors Jordan Winton and LeeAnn Behret and juniors Kali Waltz and Ava Rowe all took part in the 3-0 win against Herkimer. Winton collected 13 aces, six kills, four digs, and one assist. She also leads the team with a total of 25 kills, 17 digs, and 17 aces through seven games this season. On the other hand, LeeAnn Behret earned four digs and three aces in the contest.

Kali Waltz continues to lead the team in assists with a total of 35, including 12 vs Herkimer. She also had five aces to go along with the 15 on the season, second behind Winton.

Ava Rowe picked up four digs and is second on the team behind Winton with a total of 16. She also had seven aces, two kills, and one assist.

There were no stats reported on the losses to Westmoreland and to Cooperstown, but S-E fought hard in both games. In the 3-2 loss to Westmoreland on Thursday, S-E forced set five after losing the first two sets and winning the next two. Unfortunately, they lost the final set 15-9.

The same fierce attitude came into the game against Cooperstown on Friday at home. S-E kept things close with a 25-23 deficit in the first set and then took the third set before falling in the final.
