CORTLAND – The local indoor track teams kicked off the new year at the 607 Invitational held at SUNY Cortland on Saturday. Norwich competed in the 1 p.m. session while Bainbridge-Guilford/Afton/Harpursville, Oxford, and Unadilla Valley waited until 5 p.m.

NORWICH:

The Norwich girls saw confident performances from a handful of individuals. Ava Cirigliano finished in third place in the 300 meter dash before tying for fourth place in the 55 meter dash. Her 8.14 seconds in the 55 meter dash was a new personal-best time.

Annie Boland finished in fifth place for the 1500 meter run before a seventh place finish in the 1000 meter run. Lena Neisler earned fifth in the long jump with a mark of 4 feet, 6 inches while teammate Brinley Beckwith came in 10th (4-2).

Lara Tefft did well in the shot put and weight throw events, picking up two third place finishes. In the shotput, she finished with a 28-2.75 mark while throwing for 27 feet, 10 inches for the weight-throw.

Lucas Craddock continues to pave the way for the Norwich boys in the long, triple, and high jumps. He earned first place finishes in all events with his 44-6 mark in the triple jump, making the USA Top 50. Gabe Blenis came in second in the weight throw event with a throw of 46 feet, 3 1/4 inches.

Norwich saw some impressive finishes in the running events. Zander Sutton picked up a third place finish in the 600 meter run with a time of 1:35.31 while his brother Caden Sutton earned third in the 1000 meter run.

Both Sutton boys, along with Richard Fuller and Gage Titsworth led the sprint medley relay team to a third place finish with a time of 4:16.84.

Drew Brooks earned second place in the 3200 meter run and finished fourth in the 1600 meter run with Nic Sutton coming in 11th.

BGAH:

Ethne Degan stepped back into action for the BGAH Bears girls team with a first place finish in the 1500 meter run and finishing second in the 3000 meter run. Teammate Maddie Ingham came in second in the 1300 meter run while Vanessa Brazee came in third for the 3000.

Degan, along with Sage Pruskowski, Emma Beames, and Macaela Burns, placed second in the sprint medley relay with a time of 4:48.76, just seconds behind UV’s 4:42.37.

Burns, Brenna George, Emily Sprow, and MacKenzie Payne led the 4x200 relay to a third place finish.

For the Boys, Julian Pruskowski earned a victory in the triple jump with a best jump of 40 feet, 5 1/4 inches. Brock Porter also came away with a first place finish in the 1000 meter run with a time of 2:57.26.

OXFORD:

Kayla Figary was the top performer for the Blackhawks girls as she earned a third, a fourth, and a 12th place finishes on the day. She came in third for the 300 meter dash with a time of 48.17 seconds while coming in fourth for the 55 meter dash (7.96 seconds). She also finished 12th in the long jump with a mark of 13-5.5.

Victor Richette continues to lead the Oxford boys with some help from Gordan Smith. Richette had a fourth place finish in the 300 meter dash and a 10th place finish for the 55 meter dash. Smith finished fourth in the 1000 meter run with a time of 3:13.39 before placing eighth in the 1600 meter run.

UV:

The Unadilla Valley Storm girls came out fierce in their performances, including a first place finish in the sprint medley relay. A team of Gracie Gorrell, Isabella Potter, Kalie Naughton, and Lyla Taylor achieved a first place victory with a time of 4:42.37.

Molly Gorrell earned fourth place in the 300 meter run while Jaiden Schrag picked up a third place finish in the 55 meter hurdles with Naughton in seventh.

Schrag also competed in the long jump event, where she finished second with a jump of 15 feet, 7 1/4 inches. Gracie Gorrell came in fourth with a jump of 15 feet, 1/2 inches while Naughton finished fifth in the triple jump (31-2.25).

Haywood Edwards and Trason Murray stood out for the Storm boys. Edwards came in fifth in the 55 meter hurdles with a time of 9.40 seconds as Murray earned third place in the shot put (35-2).

All teams will be back at SUNY Cortland for the Winterfest Invite on Saturday, starting at 9 a.m for some teams while others could start at 2 p.m.
