NORWICH – In the 84 years since it was founded, members of the Chenango County Historical Society (CCHS) have supported the organization’s commitment to preserving and sharing the unique cultural heritage of the region.

In appreciation of this steadfast support, CCHS is inviting current members to celebrate Valentine’s Day with a special viewing of “Alice’s Wonderlands: The Art of Hudson” before the exhibition closes on February 15.

During the reception, current members will experience the magic and whimsy of Alice Hudson, a celebrated local artist whose work is now among the permanent collections at the Mingei International Museum in San Diego, California, and the Museum of the City of New York.

This celebration of current CCHS members will begin at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, February 14 in the museum’s flagship building, Ward School No.2, located at 45 Rexford Street in Norwich. Festivities include a final viewing of this unique exhibit which encompasses all of Hudson’s distinctive styles, as well as delicious sweets provided by Minty’s Candies and Treats in Norwich.

“Alice’s Wonderlands: The Art of Alice Hudson” shares the story of an artist ahead of her time. Curated by CCHS Operations Manager Joseph Fryc, this retrospective includes Hudson’s inspirations and her influence as an arts educator, community member, and innovator.

While her work can be found in prominent museums outside of the area and is sought after by private collectors, Hudson’s story has been known to only a handful of people in the region, even though she spent the last third of her life living in the City of Norwich, creating pieces that were influenced by the culture of Chenango County.

“We are so grateful for this opportunity to share Alice’s amazing legacy with our dedicated members, whose generosity helps make exhibits like this possible,” said Jessica Moquin, CCHS executive director. “Membership investments ensure that we are able to continue our mission of preserving and celebrating local cultural heritage.”

For the 2023 season, CCHS announced a refreshed and updated membership program, with streamlined categories, expanded core benefits, and newly created offerings. Seven categories of membership include additional opportunities – with benefits for two adults at the same address, which extend to all persons 18 or under who reside with the adult members.
