SAUQUOIT - After a brief short break in play, the Sherburne-Earlville Marauders boys basketball team have dropped their two recent games, including Friday’s game to Sauquoit Valley. The Marauders held on to a comfortable lead that got batted away as the Indians took the 51-49 win in a dominant second half play. The Indians swept the two-game series this season after winning 60-56 in the previous matchup.
S-E continued to start off strong offensively in the first two quarters like they’ve been doing throughout the season and took a 31-25 lead at halftime. Hopeful to return fierce in the second half, S-E struggled in the third quarter and were outscored 18-8. After losing that momentum, the Marauders tried to battle in the fourth quarter but efforts fell just short as Sauquoit Valley.
S-E did see a great 22-point performance by Senior forward Rylan Sigman, who had 19 points in the strong first half. Sigman also had 12 rebounds.
Jack Rodman finished behind him with eight points. Dilen Maceda and Aaron Key tied with seven points as Darren Miles was held to only two points in the contest, but picked up six rebounds and six assists.. Maceda nailed a three-point shot with 20 seconds left that helped make it a 2-point game but that was all S-E could do.
S-E is not in the position they’d like to be in at 3-11, but can only look to finish the season on a strong note and they have the players to do so. Their next games will be back-to-back against Mount Markham. The two teams will play in Sherburne on Friday at 7 p.m. before a 2:30 p.m. matinee game on Saturday in Mount Markham.
