ALBANY – This week, Assemblyman Joe Angelino (R,C- Norwich) joined Assembly Minority Leader Will Barclay (R,C- Pulaski), members of the Republican Assembly and Senate conferences, family members of crime victims, victims’ rights advocates, and representatives from law enforcement at a press conference to call for an end to bail reform and needed changes to improve public safety.

Included in the press conference was Tammy Patrick, whose father was murdered by someone free due to the state’s bail reform law.

“As a former police chief, I am uniquely aware of the harm bail reform has done to our communities. By letting dangerous criminals roam our streets we are putting the citizens of New York in danger. I am proud to support overturning the disastrous bail reform laws, in order to put people first and improve public safety,” Angelino said.

“Far too often the decisions made about criminal justice reform and public safety are made without meaningful input from members of law enforcement, prosecutors and even judges. This must change. All public safety groups have an important understanding of the issues. If the legislative majority would invite us to the table for a discussion, they might be surprised at how close we are on these important issues. I am calling on Albany Democrats to stop playing politics with public safety and finally make meaningful changes,” said Angelino.
