SHERBURNE – Selina Moore, Pasley French, Leonora Serrano, and Gabriella Naylor will be representing the Sherburne-Earlville wrestling team in the very first NYS Public High School Athletic Association’s Girls Wrestling Invitational. The four girls will travel to Onondaga Community College on January 27 at the SRC Arena for the tournament, which will start at 12:45 p.m.
The S-E coaches have applauded this milestone as “its an honor” to see these girls be a part of history. This event was established due to the recent boom in the sport of Wrestling itself’s new found popularity with an increase of participation.
In the opening round of the event, Pasley French, as a 10 seed, will take on Alexander’s Alyssa Adair in the 94 pound weight class. French is 3-8 for the Marauders this season.
As a nine-seed, Gabbi Naylor will compete against Warrensburg/Lake George’s Grace York in the 107 weight class. Naylor is 3-6 in her freshman year with S-E.
Leonora Serrano, standing at 4-6 on the season and at a 10 seed in the tournament, will be up against Saugerties’ Savannah Tittelback at 114 pounds.
Lastly, Junior Selina Moore, a veteran for S-E as this marks her fifth year on Varsity, faces Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk’s Alivia Ortiz in the 138 weight class. Both coming in as an 11th seed. Moore is even at 9-9 this season.
The event is open to the public, but tickets are $11.50 and must be paid in advance and are only sold online. To purchase tickets, fans can visit the NYSPHSAA.ORG website under championships and selecting the Girls Invitational page.
