OXFORD – After falling to Greene in the final minutes on the road, the Oxford Lady Blackhawks were much prepared for the rematch on Thursday. In fact, so prepared that they pulled off the ultimate game, handing the Lady Trojans their first loss of the season with a dominating 61-34 victory.
Greene had seen challenges prior to this game where they had to make second half comebacks to keep their undefeated season alive, but couldn’t do it this time. Oxford prowled early on with a stellar 23 points and weren’t finished as they lead 35-15 at halftime.
Greene tried for a comeback in the third quarter like they’ve done before, but Oxford held their ground and matched intensity throughout the game to maintain their lead. The Blackhawks held Greene to eight points in the final eight minutes and outscored them 26-19 overall in the second half.
Madalyn Barrows led Oxford with 27 points, where she knocked down four three’s and played great defense against Payton Yahner. This is her second consecutive game with 27 points, tying her season-best. Yahner led the Trojans with 22 points as the rest of the team were shutout from any other type of double-digit scoring.
