NEW BERLIN- The Unadilla Valley Storm boys basketball team were thankful to have two games over the weekend. Two games meant two much-needed wins, which they achieved. On Friday, they defeated Afton in a close 59-51 game before picking up the 56-44 win against a strong Walton team in a make-up game on Saturday. UV currently stands at 4-10 in what has been a challenging season.
In Friday’s game against Afton, UV had control in the first half of play, taking a 35-26 lead at halftime. Afton had room to stay up tempo with the Storm in the second half. But from the advantage in the first half, UV was able to stay consistent in the final 16 minutes to secure the victory.
Haywood Edwards led the Storm with 16 points while Zack Smith had 14 and Trason Murray had 13.
On Saturday, Walton seemed like a very challenging team, coming into the matchup 8-4 on the season. But, UV didn’t pay any attention to that factor as they started with another strong first half and never looked back in the final half of play.
Again, they had another great scoring game with three players picking up double-digits. Trason Murray had his best game with knocking down five three-pointers to finish with 20 points on the night. Kaden Butts had 11 points while Zack Smith came away with 10 in the win.
UV heads to Deposit-Hancock this evening at 7 p.m. where they look to extend their win streak.
