COOPERSTOWN – For the Sherburne-Earlville Marauders boys basketball team, the 2022-2023 basketball season has been quite a challenge. S-E has been playing consistently throughout the season, but cannot stop opponents from taking advantage late in the game.
In Tuesday’s game against Cooperstown, S-E fell 70-59 in overtime. Cooperstown dominated the first half with 25 points in the second quarter to take a 34-27 lead at halftime. S-E knew they had to step up their game plan in the final 16 minutes, which they did.
The Marauders played extremely better, especially in the fourth quarter to send the game into overtime tied at 42. A final quarter that was led by Dilen Maceda and Jack Rodman, who both finished with 13 points.
Maceda drilled back-to-back three’s from assists by Darren Miles in the final minute of regulation, before Miles found Rodman at the buzzer to send the game into overtime.
But, Cooperstown didn’t waste anytime as Miles Nelen knocked in three of his four total three-pointers and scored 11 of the Hawkeyes’ 15 overtime points. S-E made four-of-six foul shots in their overtime outing.
S-E will host their next three remaining regular season games, including Friday’s contest against Westmoreland at 7 p.m.
