GREENE - On Tuesday evening, the Greene Trojans boys swim team honored its three seniors in the 90-56 loss to Owego. Paul Starliper, Maeric Barrows, and Rowan Barrows were recognized for their dedication and commitment to the swim program.
All three swimmers were in action in their respective individual events. Starliper took the first place victory in the 100 yard breaststroke in a time of 1:26.00 while Maeric Barrows finished fourth. Rowan came in fifth place in the 50 yard freestyle as Jaxson Calice earned second and Sherman Ludolph took third.
Starliper was also a part of a team of Calice, Austin deHaan, Jon Westcott, who finished second in the 200 yard medley relay. Maeric, along with Hunter Becker, Drake Malmquist, and Ludolph came in third place with a time of 2:32.42.
Greene also picked up the second and third place positions in the 200 yard freestyle relay. The second place team featured Calice, Malmquist, Westcott, and Becker while the third place team was Maeric, Rowan, Starliper, and deHaan.
Jon Westcott came away with two second place finishes in the 100 yard butterfly and in the 100 yard backstroke events. deHaan and Calice achieved one second place finish each. deHaan swam the 500 yard freestyle in 6:18.34 while Calice was only .30 away from leader Tyler Krom (55.00) in the 100 yard freestyle, which he swam in 56.30 seconds.
Drake Malmquist earned second place in the 200 yard freestyle with a time of 2:26.19 as Hunter Becker came in third for the 200 yard individual medley event, which he finished in 3:14.37.
Greene is 2-6 on the season and will head into Class C Sectionals-Prelims on February 15 in Watkins Glen.
