SIDNEY - Over the weekend, the Section IV, Division II Qualifier B Wrestling tournament was held in Sidney and featured the Bainbridge-Guilford/Afton/Harpursville Bears and the Oxford/Greene Blackhawks. BGAH came in third while Oxford/Greene took eighth place. Windsor came away with the overall victory with 166 points.

BGAH and Oxford/Greene both had at least one wrestler in the finals. For the Bears Darren Florence in the 110 weight class, Joey Florence at 118, Jose Bivar at 126, and Ryan Blackman at 145 all won to become sectional champions. All four wrestlers won three matches on the day. Oxford/Greene had Hunter Page win it all in the 189 weight class, taking the 7-3 decision over Maine-Endwell’s Anthony Policare and reached the finals by pinning BGAH’s Landon James in 1:46.

The Blackhawks had three wrestlers make the consolations with Kade Mustin coming away with a third place victory in the 102 weight class while Christian Paden (145) and David Dunkel (152) dropped their matches.

Oxford/Greene also had Jackson Moore finish fifth in his respective weight class of 102 on a 6-0 decision against Deposit/Hancock’s Evan Johnson. BGAH’s Devon Rowe (189) and Elliott Briggs (215) both won their respective matches on pins, including Rowe’s quick :31 pin on D/H’s Cam Caskey. Blake Prisco lost his match in the 132 class by a pin and finished sixth.

Both teams will have wrestlers representing them in the Section IV, Division II Championships being held at the Broome County Arena on February 11.
