MAINE-ENDWELL – On Wednesday, the Norwich Purple Tornado boys swim team attended the Section IV, Class B swimming prelims, where all four swimmers achieved best times and advanced to the finals. As a team, the swimmers had a combined 15 best times and accomplished over 70 seconds of improvement.
Norwich took seventh in both relay races . In the 200 yard freestyle relay, the boys swam a best of 1:49.16 with a team of Ethan Guzewich, Amon Oliver, Kris Deuel, and Nate Shtrauch. Timothy Guzewich joined Ethan, Kris, and Nate in the 400 yard freestyle, swimming a best of 3:53.26.
Senior Ethan Guzewich finished in 12th place for the 50 yard freestyle event with a time of 26.24 seconds, a new personal-record. He also swam the 100 yard freestyle in 59.76 seconds for 13th place.
His brother Timothy came in ninth in the 200 yard individual medley, where he earned his new best time of 2:24.91 from a previous 2:25.22. Tim also came away with fifth place in the 100 yard backstroke event with a new time of 1:03.53.
Kris Deuel achieved third place in the 500 yard freestyle event, setting a new personal best of 5:31.99. He also finished seventh in the 200 yard freestyle, where he beat his previous time of 2:06.36 by swimming the event in 2:02.73. Teammate Nate Shtrauch finished in 11th place in the 500 yard freestyle with a time of 5:52.99 for his new best.
