NORWICH — Norwich Family YMCA Executive Director Jamey Mullen and Sports Director Tom Revoir attended the Gus Macker National Conference in Grand Rapids, Michigan this week, and provided an exciting update for athletes back home: the 26th Annual Norwich Gus Macker Tournament will be held on July 7, 8, and 9 this year.
The tournament is expected to be held at the Norwich High School and Norwich Middle School once again this year, as anticipated work on downtown Norwich streets this summer will interfere with the needs of the event.
Mullen said hosting the tournament at the schools last year worked out extremely well, but he sees the merit of hosting it downtown as well.
"Being downtown with the businesses and the parking and the closeness to the Y, and the fire department, and the police station, and the sound systems, and things of that nature, has always been an asset for the event," said Mullen. "There are many pros to having it at the school, too. So each venue provides something positive and unique for the event. So we’ll assess that in the years to come."
Registration for the 26th Annual Gus Macker Tournament is open now at Macker.com/local/norwich-ny. The team entry fee is $180, and the online registration deadline is June 19, with the mail-in deadline falling on June 16.
