SIDNEY — On Wednesday, February 15 at 2:48 p.m. the Sidney Police Department received a 911 complaint of a female lying in the middle of Sunset Avenue who appeared to be passed out. As patrol units were responding to the scene they were advised by 911 that the female had possibly been struck by a vehicle.

When units arrived on scene they found a 14-year-old female unconscious in the roadway on Sharon Street, which is an intersecting street with Sunset Avenue. The female appeared to have serious physical injury.

Sidney Emergency Medical Services was on scene and was able to stabilize the victim for transport to UHS Wilson Medical Center. The victim was then transferred to SUNY Upstate University Hospital where she remains in critical condition.

The investigation revealed that as the victim walked home from school she was struck by a vehicle. This vehicle and its driver then left the scene and returned a short time later.

Subsequent the investigation the driver was found to be impaired by alcohol. She was taken into custody and transported to the station for processing.

While officers processed the driver at our station she attempted to escape the facility but was quickly detained.

Courtni N. Baker, 31, Sidney NY was charged with the following:

One count of Aggravated DWI- .18 or more blood alcohol content, Class A misdemeanor.

One count of Driving while intoxicated, Unclassified misdemeanor.

One count of Operator leaving the scene of a personal injury accident, Class A misdemeanor.

One count of Reckless driving, Unclassified misdemeanor.

One count of Vehicular assault in the first degree, Class D felony.

One count of Escape in the third degree, Class A misdemeanor.

The following traffic tickets were also issued:

Operate motor vehicle by unlicensed driver

Operate a vehicle without inspection certificate

Failed to use designated lane

Fail to notify change of address

Baker was arraigned in the Town of Delhi Court where she was remanded to the Delaware County Jail on no bail. The investigation is ongoing which could result in more charges being filed.
