SYRACUSE NOTTINGHAM – After an impressive standout in the sectional championship, members of the Sherburne-Earlville co-ed swim team returned to Nottingham High School to compete in the state qualifiers. The two relay teams as well as Junior Amon Van Alst made the qualifiers due to their accomplishments at sectionals.
Amon, a sectionals champion, came away with a third place finish in the 500 yard freestyle. He swam the event in 5:11.92, a new best from his previous time of 5:13.21. That performance should advance him to the State Championship. He also finished 11th in the 200 yard individual medley with a time of 2:09.73.
Amon, along with Emma Crespi, Ava Flanagan, and Robert Schaefer struggled to make the top 10 with a 17th place finish in the 400 yard freestyle relay. The same team, minus Flanagan and with an addition of Parker McCracken, finished in 21st place in the 200 yard freestyle relay.
Congratulations to the S-E team for making it thus far and good luck to Amon Van Alst.
