NORWICH — After a career in law enforcement spanning 29 years, City of Norwich Police Department Chief Rodney Marsh is retiring.
At the City of Norwich Common Council Meeting, City of Norwich Mayor Brian Doliver presented Marsh with a plaque thanking him for his many years of service and dedication to the Norwich community.
"I’d like to present this to you for 29 years of service, in grateful appreciation of your 29 years of service to your city, setting a high example to those who follow, and I can’t say that enough. You’re leaving the station and department in a good place. Thank you for all you’ve done," said Doliver.
Council members also thanked the chief for his years of service.
During the meeting, the council also voted to appoint the new City of Norwich Police Department Chief. Council members voted unanimously to award the position to NPD Detective Sergeant Reuben Roach.
"I'm very pleased that Detective Roach is going to be promoted. I’ve been on the council long enough so I recall some very difficult discussions that we had, and Detective Roach was very honest and forthcoming, and was always looking out for the benefit of the City of Norwich," said Alderman David Zieno. "He’s a resident of my ward, along with his father, so I’m very proud that he can become our next city police chief."
"We should be very fortunate that we had two very good quality candidates to come forward and interview for the position that will be vacated early next month," added Alderman Robert Jeffrey. "We’re very excited. We’re excited for the ideas you have, and you have our full support as you continue to move forward."
Roach will begin his new role as chief on March 3.
