GREENE – After falling to Unatego in the MAC Championship game, the Greene Lady Trojans had to wait about a week before their sectionals game. As the Trojans finished strong in the regular season, they were awarded with the second seed in the Class ‘’C” Tournament, receiving a first round bye. On Saturday, Greene faced Delhi, where their season ended in a 38-27 loss. Greene did have a successful 2022-2023 season as the MAC Divisional II Champions with a 17-3 record.
The Bulldogs were fierce right off the bat, showing how consistent they were at the free-throw line and scoring off rebounds under their own basket. Greene was held to nine points in the first half as Payton Yahner and the offense were extremely limited.
Yahner found rhythm in the second half, alongside Cali Knapp, who scored a team-high of nine points in the loss. Yahner had seven points, including a three to keep the game close.
Delhi kept pushing a 10-point lead throughout the contest as Natalie Vredenburgh had too much space to move about freely to score 20 points. Delhi finished 12-of-17 from the free-throw line as Greene’s defense was put to the test. Greene found themselves down six at the end of the third quarter, but couldn’t produce offensively at crucial times.
Good luck to seniors Payton Yahner, Cassie Butler, and Emma Rice.
