STATEN ISLAND – On Saturday, local athletes in Chenango County traveled to Staten Island for the 2023 NYSPHSAA Indoor Track Championships. Bainbridge-Guilford/Afton, Norwich, and Unadilla Valley were proudly represented.
Norwich had three athletes compete with Lucas Craddock coming away with a podium finish. The junior finished fifth in the boys triple jump with a jump of 44 feet, 6 2/4 inches. Craddock had broken the indoor track record at Norwich earlier in the season and has excelled ever since. His overall best triple jump stands at 46-6.25.
BGA’s Julian Pruskowksi finished 25th in the same event with a jump of 40-4.50.
Norwich’s Richard Fuller competed in the 300 meter dash after a phenomenal performance in the state qualifiers. At States, he finished in 24th place with a time of 36.38 seconds. He just missed hitting a new personal-best, which he accomplished at the qualifiers with a time of 36.36 seconds.
Teammate Gabe Blenis was also up against some fierce competition in the boys weight-throw event. He finished 27th with a throw of 48 feet, four inches. The junior’s personal-best currently stands at 51-2.
All four junior male athletes look for a strong final season next year.
Sophomore Gracie Gorrell and Junior Ethne Degan shined for the female athletes. Gorrell had an impressive season for the Unadilla Valley Storm and finished 14th in States, second in her heat. She ran the 300 meter dash in a new personal-best time of 41.31 seconds.
BGA’s Degan finished her junior season strong in the 1500 meter run. She came in 15th place with a time of 4:51.29.
Congratulations to all athletes on an excellent 2022-2023 indoor track season.
