BROOKFIELD – After picking up their first win on Tuesday, the Otselic Valley Lady Vikings softball team faced Brookfield, where they suffered a 7-2 loss. OV and Brookfield will play each other one more time in the final game of the season on May 15, giving the Vikings plenty of time to improve.
The Beavers took an early 2-0 lead that shifted to three more runs added in the third inning. OV, down 5-0, got on the board with two of their own in the fourth inning.
Riley Bartlett drove in those two runs with two runners (Cassidy and Paige Will) in scoring position. Bartlett led the team with two hits as Cassidy and Paige each had one.
The Beavers scored two final runs in the bottom half of the same inning and OV failed to get another hit or a chance as Brookfield’s pitcher struck out 17 batters on the day.
Despite the struggles on offense, the Vikings had great defensive plays. Carlie Golden caught a line drive in the first inning and made a double play with a throw to Paige Will to limit the Beavers’ damage. Paige, along with Cassidy Will, made a few great catches in their respective positions.
Cassidy Will struck out seven on the mound and allowed four earned runs (seven total runs) on six hits and only walked two batters in the loss.
OV (1-2) travels to Cincinnatus on Monday for a game expected to start at 4:30 p.m.
