BAINBRIDGE – The Bainbridge-Guilford Bobcats softball team returned home to face the Oxford Blackhawks on Monday afternoon. B-G picked up its seventh win of the season 15-6.
While B-G scored 15 runs, they only had five hits on the day. Both teams had some trouble on defense, committing multiple errors. B-G scored in each inning, including five runs in the fifth inning.
The fifth inning was led by the bats of J. Henderson, Brenna George, Breanna Casey, Celeste Baldwin, and Danica Park . Henderson brought in a run on an RBI single and George would bring in a run on a sacrifice bunt to third base. Casey also hit an RBI single before runs would score on mishaps made by the Oxford defense in Baldwin and Park’s at-bats.
Casey led the Bobcats with two hits and stole four of the team’s eight stolen bases.
Oxford, trailing 3-0, got on the board in the third inning with two runs on a wild pitch and a bases-loaded walk. Oxford reached base on eight walks given up by Bobcats’ pitchers and the offense provided one single in the contest.
The Blackhawks scored three runs in the sixth as three straight batters reached on walks before Taegan Manwarren brought in a run with a ground-out RBI. With two outs, Kyla Kelsey-Jones ended BG’s no-hitter with an single to left field, which scored two runs. Oxford scored one final run in their final at-bat as Naiomi Smith reached on a walk and had excellent base running to score on Madison Long’s groundout.
On the mound, Celeste Baldwin allowed no hits in five innings pitched, but gave up five runs (three unearned), walked seven batters while striking out nine. Gabriella Cuozzo finished the contest, allowing one run on one hit, one walk, and struck out one. Oxford’s Naiomi Smith struck out six batters in the loss.
B-G travels to Unatego this afternoon while Oxford hosts Delhi. Both games are expected to start at 4:30 p.m.
