SIDNEY – The Norwich Purple Tornado baseball team fought fiercely in the two games they played over the weekend, but fell to both Windsor and Seton Catholic. Saturday’s game against Seton Catholic resumed the Sidney Tournament for Diabetes. Norwich was very familiar with both teams already this season, but couldn’t get things going their way.

On Friday, Norwich fell to Windsor 6-2. Windsor scored three runs in the second inning to pull ahead 3-2 and secured the victory with two runs in the fifth inning. Norwich’s Nick Ragonese, Trent Marinelli, and Graham Burton each provided one hit in the loss. Burton and Trey Bates also drove in one run.

Norwich lost 7-5 to Seton Catholic on Saturday in the tournament’s championship game, where they were able to tie the game at two in the bottom of the first inning, showing a strong offensive start. However, Seton shutout Norwich in the third and fourth innings and scored one run in each inning themselves before scoring two runs in the fifth. Norwich scored a run in the fifth, sixth, and seventh inning, but it wasn’t enough.

Colin Olds led the Purple Tornado as he went 2-for-3 at the plate with two RBIs. Kaden Downey also drove in two runs while Zack Parker returned to the lineup, playing shortstop, and added a hit and RBI. Marinelli and Bates also had a hit in the loss.

Norwich hosts Oneonta this afternoon, weather permitting, at 5 p.m.
