BG and UV track teams compete at O’Donnell Invite

WINDSOR – Over the weekend, the Bainbridge-Guilford and Unadilla Valley track teams competed in the Gerry O’ Donnell Invitational held at Windsor High School. They were the only local teams from our area against 16 other schools to participate at this meet. UV also brought its girls’ relay team to Pennsylvania to compete in the Penn Relays Carnival.

BG

BG’s Emily Sprow led the girls in multiple events while Ethne Degan only competed in the 800 meter run this time out. Sprow sprinted in the 100 meter dash, where she came in eighth with a time of 14.27 seconds. She also achieved first place in the long jump with a jump of 14 feet, 11 1/4 inches. Teammate Annika Armstrong finished 10th in the same long jump event (12-4.75).

Sprow also competed in the triple jump for a best of second place (31-11.50) while Elanor Sprow came in seventh place (27-6.50). Degan was strong in the 800 meter run, achieving second place and setting a new best time of 2:20.68. Maddie Ingham finished behind her in third with a time of 2:32.48.

Rounding out the Bobcats’ girls sprinters was Vanessa Brazee in fourth place in the 3000 meter run with her new best time of 13:13.81 and Jamila George competing in the 100 meter hurdles and finishing seventh (19.67). The B-G girls 4x800 relay team also took first place with a time of 10:32.65.

The Bobcats’ boys team was led by Collin Dicks and Corbin Germond in sprints while Connor Vredenburgh was solid in his respective field events.

Dicks picked up a fifth place finish in the 100 meter dash, which he ran in 12.08 seconds. He also competed in the long jump with a jump of 16 feet, nine 1/2 inches, which was good for ninth place.

Sophomore Corbin Germond achieved two new personal best times in both the 110 meter hurdles and in the 400 meter hurdles. His best finish was in the 400 meters as he came in seventh with a new time of 1:08.38. He finished eighth in the 110 meters with a new best time of 19.29 seconds.

Connor Vredenburgh was dominant in the discus and shot put events. He earned second place with a throw of 114 feet in discus while finishing 13th in the shot put (33-10) Teammate Elliot Briggs finished ahead of him in the shotput with a new best throw of 36 feet, seven inches. Ryan Larsen also set a new best throw in discus and finished sixth (96-8).

Chris Moyer and Matthew Wombacker both tied for seventh place in the pole vault, where they achieved a new best of 7 feet, six inches.

UV

The Unadilla Valley Storm was missing a crucial part of its track team during the meet as Gracie Gorrell, Kalie Fernandez-Naughton, Isabella Potter, and Jaiden Schrag competed at the Penn Relays Carnival in Pennsylvania. The girls achieved a new best time in the 4x400 relay with a time of 4:20.96 while also competing in the 4x100 relay in 52.16 seconds. The girls also ran against schools from NY, NJ, VA, PA, MD, DE and even Jamaica.

Without these lovely ladies, UV still had a strong group of girls for the Gerry O’Donnell invite. Molly Gorrell finished sixth in the 200 meter dash, which she ran in 29.77 seconds. Eighth graders Madison Dix and Addison Marinelli set new best times in the 800 meter run. Dix finished 10th with a new time of 2:49.32 while Marinelli came in 15th place with a time of 2:54.66.

Freshman Natalya Schrag ran the 1500 meter run in her best time of 5:53.44 for eighth place.

The Storm boys team were led by Jacob Prentice, Tucker Cattanach, and Alex Kemnah. Prentice achieved eighth place in the 200 meter dash with a time of 25.50. Senior Owen Hill also ran the event and earned a new best time of 26.10 seconds for 10th place.

Prentice also ran the 400 meter dash in a new personal best time of 56.12 as teammate Tucker Cattanach finished 12th with his new best of 58.17. Alex Kemnah rounded out the sprinters in the 800 meter run, setting a new personal time of 2:29.86, which was good for 10th place.

Cattanach also participated in the triple jump event, where he came in third place with a jump of 35 feet, 10 inches. Senior Blake Wright finished 12th in the discus throw (89-0) and 15th in shot put (33-05) to conclude the day for the Storm.

Both teams, along with Norwich, Oxford, Sherburne-Earlville, Sidney, Unatego, De Ruyter, Edmeston, Cincinnatus, Deposit, and Morrisville Eaton will be attending the REK invitational held at Norwich high school on Friday, starting at 4 p.m.
