NEW BERLIN – After two close victories, the Unadilla Valley Storm softball team faced Unatego on Tuesday afternoon. The game was a rescheduled contest that was supposed to be played at Unatego, but was moved to Unadilla Valley. UV still played the road team on their home field in a back-and-forth affair that Unatego won in the bottom of the seventh 7-6.
Both teams were knotted at three a piece leading up until the bottom of the fifth inning. Unatego went ahead 6-3 with three runs scored. UV tied it back up in the top of the seventh as Natalie Crandall singled on a hard ball to center field, allowing Kailee Figger at second to score.
Crandall, along with Haleigh Fisher, had two hits to drive the Storm offense that outhit the Spartans 7-4. Figger, Crandall, and Pyper Kneale also drove in two runs in their plate appearances. Jaiden Schrag returned to the lineup and stole two bases.
Unatego, with a chance in the bottom of the seventh inning, had two runners on with a hit by pitch and a single. One base runner was caught stealing before the other advanced in scoring position and scored the game-winning run on a passed ball.
Despite coming out on the losing side, Haleigh Fisher continued to be her strong self on the mound. She allowed seven runs (two earned) on four hits, walked two batters, and struck out 11.
