NORWICH – On Monday, the Norwich Purple Tornado boys tennis team hosted Oneonta, where they suffered a 5-2 loss on senior night. Prior to the match, Norwich honored its five dedicated tennis seniors. Congratulations to Philip Kraft, William Lindner, Nate Franklin, Donovan Gillen, and Alex Newman.
Nate Franklin picked up the lone win for the senior class in his singles match. He defeated Oneonta’s Ryan Vanvalkenburg in both sets by scores of 6-2 and 6-4. Teammate Anthony Pomares earned a 6-4 and 6-2 victory against Dylan Shaughnessy. Kristopher Deuel and Matthew Hall fell in both sets of their respective singles matches.
Norwich had no luck in any of the doubles matches. Joseph Hall and Liam Hunter fell to the Yellowjackets’ Isaac Wooden and Simmone Segal in two close sets. One was a close 7-6 with the 7-3 advantage going to Oneonta before they won the second set 6-4.
Seniors Newman and Kraft fell to Caleb Christian and Stephen Mendez in two 6-3 sets while Lindner and Gillen lost to Brighton Logue and Ian Fulkerson 6-3 and 6-4.
Norwich stands at 5-5 on the 2023 season and had their match against Chenango Forks postponed with no rescheduled date at this time.
