DEPOSIT – The Unadilla Valley Storm softball team traveled to Deposit-Hancock for the first round of the MAC playoffs. The Eagles lead the conference while UV sits in fourth place behind Bainbridge-Guilford. Deposit-Hancock defeated UV 7-1 to advance to the MAC Championship against Greene.
Deposit-Hancock scored three runs in the first, two in the second inning to take a 5-0 lead. UV answered with their only run in the game in the top of the third inning. Kailee Figger scored on a defensive error made by the first baseman.
Figger, along with Haleigh Fisher, had the only two hits for the Storm on offense. Fisher struck out 12 batters in the loss.
UV heads to Bainbridge to take on the Bobcats in the MAC consolation game on Thursday at 4:30 p.m.

Norwich’s offense improves in the 16-6 loss to Oneonta. Norwich tacked on six runs in the fourth inning and hit the ball nine times. Two hits came off the bat of Ava Cirigliano and Emma Palmer. Loralee Brown, Haley Beckwith, Maddy Quattrocchi, Adrianna Palmer, and Shaelyn Rice also hit the ball at least once. Quattrocchi struck out 10 batters in the loss.
Oxford shuts out Afton 11-0. No full stats are reported at this time.
BASEBALL:
Afton falls to Unatego/Franklin in the MAC semi-finals 1-0. The game was scoreless and went into extra innings, where Unatego scored in the bottom of the eighth to win. Afton was allowed just one hit in the contest, which came off the bat of Ryan Wright in the first inning. Justin Reeve earned the start on the mound and struck out four batters in the loss.
