BAINBRIDGE – After both teams suffered losses at the hands of two MAC leading teams, the Unadilla Valley Storm and the Bainbridge-Guilford Bobcats played each other in the playoffs consolation. UV bounced back from three straight losses to take this important game 5-3.
UV got on the board early on a Shelby Rose groundout RBI with just one out. The Storm scored another run in the third inning as Natalie Crandall reached on an error, advanced to second on the error, and was in scoring position on a passed ball. Haleigh Fisher drove Crandall in on the next play on a groundout to the pitcher.
UV added onto their lead in the top of the fourth inning on an RBI single by Shyla Roberts and on a error by the Bobcats defense. B-G finally answered in the bottom half of the inning as Breanna Casey led off with a single and made her way to third on a stolen base and a single by teammate Celeste Baldwin. She scored on Danica Park’s groundout.
The Storm added on one more insurance run in the top of the seventh inning as Haleigh Fisher picked up another groundout RBI. UV only had two hits in the contest with Kadence York and Roberts both having one hit each.
B-G attempted a comeback in the bottom of the seventh inning with four singles, sending in two runs, but their next two batters were put away, ending the game.
Haleigh Fisher picked up the win for the Storm on the mound. She allowed the three runs off six hits and struck out six batters. B-G used its two go-to pitchers with Celeste Baldwin earning the start, going 4.2 inning, allowing four runs (one earned) on one hit, three walks, and struck out five batters. Gabriella Cuozzo finished the contest, giving up one unearned run on one hit and struck out three batters.
Both teams await any potential Sectionals bids. The sectionals seeding meeting will be held Monday. B-G holds a record of 11-6 and UV has a record of 8-5.
